Give to the Lord, you heavenly beings, give to the Lord glory and strength.
Give to the Lord the glory of His name; worship the Lord in holy splendor. (Ps. 29:1–2)
But Scripture says that we should also glorify Him in every facet of our lives. “Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31). This includes our God-given jobs, and even in retirement. And it applies in our mundane, ordinary lives—even apart from some great accomplishment.
One way we can glorify God in our work is to do our very best. “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might” (Eccl. 9:10). In Colossians, —the Apostle Paul says, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (Col. 3:23). “Heartily” means “from the heart.” When we do good work, we honor the Lord who called us to that work.
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 4:10–11)
When we work purely for our self-interests, we glorify ourselves. When we work to serve others, we glorify God. To feel gratitude to God is to recognize our dependence on Him and to exult in His unfathomable grace. And “as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God” (2 Cor. 4:15).
I don’t think that any of those who worked this past week with us at the Ladies US Open served for selfish reason or to pat themselves on the back. We worked hard, and it was hot. We were on our feet far too many hours (and some took on multiple shifts). We are so amazed and overwhelmed by the love that these selfless volunteers showered on us and those who came to our food stand.
We began planning this event over 10 months ago – and last week it all came together. People from several parts of our lives came together and worked side by side (most not having ever met before). We had several people local as well as people from KY, NH, TN, GA, TX, Charlotte and even Japan!!. With a combined total of 3,822 miles traveled (excluding Japan) At times I wanted to just stand back in awe of what the Lord was doing (like I had time to do that) 😊.
Our group was the largest group of any non-profit on the golf course – we all had t shirts with Warrior 180 Foundation on them – and people recognized our organization, even just getting on buses the workers commented on our group. We covered 91 shifts with a volunteer army of 44 over four days (a sum total of 700 worked hours). Our food stand was filled with laughter and smiles, welcoming faces and offers to help. We were and are so amazingly proud of the group that the Lord brought together.
And in all of this – we give the Glory to the Lord. The hard work, the heat, sore legs and back, and the housing (strange as it was for those who traveled)-all to glorify the God who gave each of us the ability to be servants to those around us.
According to the contract we won’t know for possibly two months what the financial donation to Warrior 180 Foundation will be, but we will gladly let everyone know. We are beyond humbled by the gift of volunteers and joy filled workers who stood along side of us to help make a difference in the world.
Thank you for your part of supporting Warrior 180 Foundation. From prayer warriors, financial supporters, and physical workers – none of what we do could happened without each person’s hand. And we give all the praise and glory to the Lord for his overwhelming grace to work it all together ‘for HIS good’ by allowing us to be His hands and feet to a hurting world.
gain – we could not be any prouder of our team and those who supported us (especially with food) and prayers for safety (yeah!! No work-related injuries) and travel. Again, may the Lord our creator be the one glorified for His bringing this all together.
